Brazil – Christian Day School – BRA001
$50.00 – $1,000.00
Woven into the societal fabric of northern Brazil are thick strands of poverty, ignorance, underemployment, and many associated social ills. The children often end up paying the highest price, growing up in fractured homes and accepting dysfunctional and destructive lifestyles as normal. For lack of a good education and employment opportunities many turn to gang activity and crime, including prostitution, as a source of income. For lack of wholesome role models and sound instruction many fall into promiscuous lifestyles and abuse of drugs and alcohol.
The PAZ Institute Institute is a ministry of Project AmaZon (PAZ) and the PAZ Church of Brazil. Located in northern Brazil, in the town of Castanhal, Pará, the Institute seeks to actively intervene in the lives of needy at-risk children, steering them in a positive direction. An enhanced education experience will open the doors to better employment and higher quality of life. A loving and wholesome environment will establish positive models for them to follow as they grow and assume their roles in life. A strong Christian orientation will point them toward the One who loves them with a perfect love and is the source of all health and wholeness. The children’s immediate needs will be met in the provision of nourishing meals, medical and dental care, love, counseling, and spiritual guidance.
The PAZ Institute currently serves some 40 children, all from the immediate area of the school. Programming includes academic reinforcement, English, Digital Inclusion (computer skills), and reading skills. Music appreciation and skills are taught through a new program developed in partnership with the City, “Winds of Life” – learning to play the recorder in a group setting. In addition, children are grounded in the Bible through Bible studies and times of prayer and worship. The Institute hopes to add more programs and expand their service to more students as financial resources become available. This project is currently funded by the PAZ Church in Santarém. They are pursuing partnerships with businesses and local government but at present the greatest need is for financial support for routine operating expenses such as meals, electric bill, salaries for maintenance staff, cleaning supplies, and fuel to transport the volunteers. The goal of this project is $3000, the approximate amount of three month’s operating costs.
